About the Author

andrew_fasan.jpg

A native of Toronto, Canada, Andrew Fasan has been a Flight Instructor since 1994. Having harboured an ambition to fly from an early age, his introduction to flying came with a spell as a student at Toronto Airways in Markham, Ontario. Convinced from these initial flying lessons that an aviation career beckoned, his keen appetite for flying soon led him to the prestigious Flight Safety International training facility in Vero Beach, Florida where he earned his private, commercial, multi-engine and IFR ratings.

After obtaining an instructor rating, he taught on a full-time basis at Toronto’s City Centre Airport (now Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport) during which time he developed the material for Flight Test Notes. Seeing a strong need to assist students to a greater degree with their flight test preparations, Andrew developed Flight Test Notes to help his students gain greater understanding and confidence in the application of the air exercises required of them to obtain their licences.

Now flying as a full-time captain, (and with over 10,000 hours of flight time accumulated), Andrew maintains his instructor rating and continues to take a keen interest in bettering flight instructional methods, and in furthering the education of students.

Flight Test Notes

Written for the benefit of all students preparing for their Transport Canada flight test, Flight Test Notes takes licence candidates step-by-step through every exercise on which they’ll be tested. Its purpose is, thus, to ensure that students are thoroughly prepared for the experience of the flight test examination.

In Flight Test Notes, every exercise from Transport Canada’s Flight Test Guides is analyzed in detail with the objective of providing students with a very clear understanding of what examiners expect of them during their test. Ultimately, its aim is to maximize student performance, thereby assisting students towards achieving the highest grade possible at the conclusion of the testing process.

Jitters and nerves can break the most skillful of students. Therefore, knowledge of the flight test process ahead of time, combined with systematic preparation for the testing process, eases the butterflies and calms any anxieties. Students who are prepared for what’s coming won’t be faced with any unexpected surprises. That’s what Flight Test Notes is about. It describes the performance criteria expected for every exercise, tells students what they need to know and do, highlights common mistakes, and reviews essential elements of the testing procedure. A comprehensive review of the ground briefing process provides readers with a combined total of 250 questions (along with their answers) of the explicit type to anticipate from examiners during the pre-flight phase of the examination.

Flight Test Notes is recognized as an excellent exam preparation tool that thoroughly describes what to anticipate for the Private Pilot Licence and Commercial Pilot Licence exams. It is also used by candidates seeking their Recreational Pilot Permit. It is written to ensure that students are fully aware of, and prepared for, the standards and criteria upon which their skills in the air will be checked and confirmed. In the final analysis, Flight Test Notes is written to help prepare students to become the best pilots that they can be.
