Part I: Aircraft Operations
Part I of From
The Ground Up covers three main topics in extensive detail: The
Airplane, Theory of Flight, and Aero Engines.
The average pilot
will probably never have occasion to rebuild or repair their own airplane;
however, a fundamental knowledge of the components of the airplane,
their functions, structure, operations and limitations is an essential
part of every pilot's qualifications. Part 1 takes readers through the
elements and basics of the aircraft prior to take off into the Theory
of Flight.
Pilots who have a
good grasp of the fundamentals of flight will understand what to expect
of each different airplane that they have the occasion to fly. Not only
to get the best performance but also to ensure the safety of each flight,
an understanding of the theory of flight is essential.
The life and efficiency
of an aero engine depends upon the use or abuse the motor suffers at the
hands of the pilot. Proper care and concern in the handling and running
of such engines by an experienced pilot will keep that engine off the
old age pension long beyond its normal life span. Knowledge of the principles
and construction of internal combustion engines is, therefore, necessary
if the proper procedure in running and handling is to be observed.
